Banksy’s "Balloon Girl" appeared in its first incarnation on the side of a printing shop in the East London creative hub of Hoxton. When the mural sprung up in 2002 the area was in the heady grip of rapid gentrification, as artists and tech entrepreneurs made use of the expansive and inexpensive studio space on offer in the area’s derelict factories and warehouses. The piece portrays a moment of lost innocence before the onset of bewildering maturity, succinctly reflecting the fate of the hopelessly utopian area in which it first appeared. "Balloon Girl" was one of the earliest Banksy works to achieve a level of iconicity that would go unmatched in the current climate of image trending. As such, the work became familiar through postcard prints rather than shares, through imitations instead of likes. In February 2014, some twelve years after it was first daubed on a London street, it was announced that the owner of the wall planned to remove the work and sell it at auction for an estimated price of $850,000. But this was not the end of the story for the "Balloon Girl". The following month the secretive artist reclaimed his protagonist for a positive cause; reworking the design to depict a head-scarfed Syrian girl, a refugee of the terrible war, who witnesses her love and innocence depart like a lost balloon. As the city space is always the best canvas, Banksy projected the image onto global landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, and initiated a ‘global recreation’ day whereby celebrities and fans released red balloons to raise awareness for the victims of the Syrian War. From an emblem of hipster heartbreak to an international symbol of hope, Banksy’s "Balloon Girl" is a resonant image of reconciliation.
Giclee art printing process is a sophisticated method of art production using bright, vivid, archival inks. The art is manufactured on museum-quality heavy-weight cotton canvas using state of the art equipment - the latest technology available - with top of the line inks.
Our art pieces are produced on thick 100% cotton acid-free canvas - NOT PAPER. The canvas has a textured look & feel of fine art.
Our ink has been light-tested to last over 100 years. The canvas prints will not fade or turn yellow and are remarkably bright in color and unrivaled in detail. We only purchase Epson ink directly from the manufacturer and never use refilled cartridges.
We use the best shrink-resistant wooden-bar frame which allows for tightening of the canvas from the reverse side.
Custom packaging that keeps your canvas safe during shipment with "fragile" packing tape.
Custom flush-mount wall hanging setup designed to let the canvas hang right against the wall instead of the top hanging away from the wall on a single latch.
Professional frame wrapping: the canvas is carefully hand-stretched and stapled on the reverse side with no staples visible once the piece is hung.
