About:
: The Creation of Adam is a fresco painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel by Italian artist Michelangelo around 1511. This painting is one of the most well-known artworks of all times and has been used as reference and guidance to many later oeuvres. Michelangelo is said to have found inspiration for this painting in the Veni Creator Spiritus, a medieval hymn, where the finger of the paternal right hand is used to give a faithful speech. The composition illustrates how God gave life to Adam, the first man on earth in the Book of Genesis in the Bible.God is represented as an old man, with a white beard, and Adam’s figure is shown nude; they both stretch their arms to find each other’s fingers. God reaches out to Adam to give him the gift of life and is, at the same time, created in the image and likeness of God.
