In 1997 Brad Fanom, a young Italian-American born in Milan, began attending American Academy of Art in Chicago.  During the first year he signed up for the American Art Culture course taught by professor Adan Agustin, a highly respected and acknowledged local pop artist. During the school year Brad became fascinated with pop art culture and the Chicago gallery exhibitions.  Adan and Brad developed a closely

bonded relationship that evolved around their passion for the pop art scene in the Chicago land area. The online boom was in full effect in the late 90s and many businesses were transferring their focus to the Internet.  Brad, having extensive web-development experience from his internship program began to wonder if Adan’s art proficiency, combined with his knowledge, could lead to a successful online art store.     (Brad Fanom: lower-left corner,  Adan Agustin lower-right corner)

 

In 1999 Brad and Adan invested into the idea of iCanvasART.  By this time, starting a business had become a dream propelled by passion and immeasurable love of art. With the initial investment of five thousand dollars each, both Adan and Brad leased and purchased essential equipment and set up shop in a spare room of Adan’s home. In just a few weeks, iCanvasART was already providing its high-quality product to enthusiastic local art galleries.
Even with opening month’s accomplishment Brad knew, to be successful, they had to shift iCanvasART focus to the Internet and explore the possibilities of the World Wide Web.  After receiving Adan’s support and further financial backing, Brad dedicated his efforts solely to developing an online store.  iCanvasART.com was born: offering just 23 items.
