Claude Monet (1840-1926) is the founder of French impressionist painting due to his consistent and prolific practice of one's perception of nature applied to plein-air landscape painting. During his study at art school, Monet has a faithful encounter with Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Alfred Sisley, and Frederic Bazille. It is then they created a new approach to art by painting the light effect (en plein air) with rapid brushstroke known later on as impressionism. A painting titled La femme a la robe verte earned him his fame. It is also one of few paintings featuring his wife as a model. In 1872, he created a masterpiece titled "Impression, Sunrise" which was showcased in 1874 and was the reason art critic Louis Leroy coined the term "Impressionism". It is only after Monet and his wife moved to Argentruil that Monet painted various works of modern life. During his wife's dying hour (September 1879), Monet painted her on her death bed.
