incent van Gogh (1853-1890) is undeniably one of the greatest artists to ever live & paint. Vincent van Gogh was born on 1853, in Holland, and is known for his unique style of post-impressionist painting. With his ultra vivid colors and powerful emotional impact, Van Gogh had huge influence on 20th century art. He used colors to convey emotions and was able to do so with bold brushstrokes and intense color use. His failed romantic relationships and unsuccessful early careers as a clerk, art salesmen, and a preacher, led to his highly emotional state that made him peruse art more passionately. He eventually left to Paris, where he completed his art education with Fernand Cormon. As he anticipated, he got the chance to meet other great painters like Monet, Gauguin, and Pissarro. This marked a great turn in his life. He started exhibiting his paintings along with other impressionists. In 1888, Van Gogh decided to move to Arles to found a school of art and become financially independent and his friend and famous painter Gauguin joined him. However, Gauguin had to leave Arles shortly due to a violent incident where in a fit of madness, Van Gogh chased Gauguin with a razor and ended up cutting a part of his own left ear. He sold only one single painting in his entire career. After he committed himself to an asylum in Saint-Remy, he seemed to be much better off but shortly ended up committing suicide.
